hello mama's!! I'm a mom of a 4 months old baby and I would just like to share the do's and don'ts (based on my experience) in buying baby stuff.
It's quite frustrating to plan your budget to buy all the baby stuff you think you'll probably need. For first time mums, like me..I wanted to buy all the cute stuffs I see in the internet. From rocker, swing, cots, carrier, cute clothes,....you name it, as in everything. So I did my homework, I read blogs and posts from first time mums alike so as those "hustlers". watched youtube videos and read lots of information from the internet. turns out that we, first time mums get too excited about all this baby preparatory things ending up buying things that you wont really use that much. So what are the important things that I bought, which are useful, , which are not?
Here's my list:
Clothing:
5 sets of onesies with short sleeves
3 sets of pyjamas (2pc, long sleeves)
2 pcs clothing with short sleeves
3 pcs sleeveless shirt
3 briefs/2shorts
4 swaddle blankets (just buy 2..I wasn't able to use it after 2 months as my baby dont like being swaddled)
4 pairs of socks and mittens (must buy more mittens when baby turn 2 months as they tend to suck they're fingers so I change from time to time)
2 head cap/hat
20 pcs of white burp cloths
didn't buy that much as I know friends and relatives will give gifts for him. I mix and match the sizes too and have 3-6 months sizes and 2-4 pcs of newborn size as babies grows very fast.
bathing
2 towels
J&J lotion (lavender)
J&J top to toe wash
J&J powder (lavender)
4pcs wash cloth
bath tub (w/support so its easier to bathe the baby when lying down)
invest in a bigger size baby tub. I though I bought a big one already but my baby is just too big to fit in now that he's 4 months old.
Feeding:
feeding bottles
(avent, NUK, pigeon: I bought a lot coz im trying the teats for my baby, used for a while but end up in store coz I succeeded in breastfeeding exclusively)
bottle steamer
bottle rack
breast pump manual
( big help in making my milk supply keep going. decided to buy just the manual one because im so into breasfeeding that I knew I wont make use of it when I start feeding exclusively)
pacifier
(I bought NUK, it helps at times but my baby dont use it until recently as he kept sucking his hands.)
others:
baby cot
mattress and bumpers
pillow and 2 bolster
baby rocker (yao lan) I dont use it too often..only when baby is cranky and I need to do something else)
diaper organizer
baby mobile
baby carrier (buy those that can be use for newborn position)
stroller (I use everytime!!)
you will notice that I didn't buy changing tables, steady rocker/bouncer, and baby cabinet as im not gonna use it that often. I am a fulltime mum and only attending to my baby, house chores is done by our helper so no point buying some of those. even regret buying the yao lan coz it dont help that much. Our baby cot is not much use coz my son is sleeping with us (easier when breastfeeding). changing pad is not necessary at home if you are using diapers. I organized our cothing shelf and drawers to make space for baby's clothes.
I leave in Singapore and house spaces are not really big. Our room is small and I dont like the idea of having a seperate nursery. I'm not stingy, neither my husband, but Im just planning/buying smart. Believe me, you wouldn't like to see lots of stuff arkund your house.
So, yeah...those we're the things I roughly bought for my baby.
